Who can apply for a Skills Bootcamp

You can apply if you are 19 or over, live in the bootcamp's funded area (for Oxford, working there also counts), have the right to live and work in the UK, and can commit full-time for all ten weeks. The funder sets these rules. You also need your own laptop. For which bootcamps are open, see "Career-change courses: what's running now".

Where you live or work

  • Oxford: you must live or work in Oxfordshire (Oxford City, Cherwell, South Oxfordshire, Vale of White Horse or West Oxfordshire).
  • London: for the cohort that started on 26 October, you had to live in Greater London (the 32 boroughs or the City of London); working there did not count. Rules for a future London cohort may change.
  • Elsewhere: each bootcamp is funded for its own area only. In work in England? Our funded programmes are open across England.

Right to work and visas

You need the right to live and work in the UK. Student and graduate visas are not eligible, and sponsored work visas were not eligible for the October 2026 London cohort.

Your laptop

You need a Windows or Mac laptop (not a Chromebook or tablet) with at least 8GB RAM, 256GB of storage (SSD), a webcam and a microphone. You bring it to the in-person days too. If you do not have one, tell the admissions team.

Your time, work and other study

  • Full-time. You must be free Monday to Friday for all ten weeks, including the in-person days. Oxford sessions finish by around 4pm.
  • In work? You can apply if you work part-time and can adjust your hours, are self-employed with weekdays free, or are leaving a full-time job. It is not open to people staying in a full-time job.
  • Other courses. You cannot be on another full-time course or apprenticeship, or have done a government-funded Skills Bootcamp this funding year.
  • Time off. If you expect to miss more than five training days, the bootcamp is not the right fit this time.

Benefits

The questionnaire asks whether you receive benefits such as Universal Credit. Your answer does not affect your application; the funder asks us to report it. For how a bootcamp affects your claim, ask your Jobcentre work coach.
